Ri! Cycle

An article said, sex increases life expectancy. We have somany kid factories in India still our life expectancy is one of the lowest! My grandmother on the other hand was a window in her teens and lived a full hundred years. If this argument looks wiered, so be it!!

It seems only 13% waste generated in Toronto is recyclable. God know how much is degradable. I remember how mother used the waste to add to fertilizer stock and also how degradable waste was used to feed cows. I honestly do not rememer seeing any nondegradable waste back home until recently. I do not want you to waste your time on waste. An addvertisement used to say "dont waste timepass"!

Let us talk about bicycle. We know who invented it. No actually we do not know! In either case, what is your problem? Just use it. Why should you know all the story to ride it? My bike on the other hand is very expensive. The lock is even more expensive! It cost me $5 more than the bike. My card said "insufficient fund" when I paid $20 for the lock! Very expensive for a sports bike I guess. I also got to know why it is illegal to ride on a freeway. It is not so hard to kill ourselves riding on a freeway next to vehicles speeding at around 100+ Kms. If you choose to ride a bike at 1 am in the night like I did, dying can be even easier (Some fools call it morning! Morning is when you get to see Sun's hangover).

We are gathered here today to talk about business cycles. Bicycles and recycles were only a prelude. You got to be more serious dude! Can not talk always about bicycles. What about it? Thing is, interest rate in India was raised a few days ago by the Rezerve Bank of Bharatha. A book that I picked up by mistake started talking about how prosperity breeds criss. Shortage of short term loans, raise in prices, interest rate. So many things, confusing man! Know what, even economists are confused. You know why? becasue there is mist in econo-mist! Fog , I mean. The point of the argument is that If what I understood is right (common, when was that last time?) India might slip into at least a mild recession.

If you are still wondering how this relates to me, look, during prosprerity inefficiency grows. Unskilled dumb labours get jobs to somehow increase production (no not reproduction). That is how prosperity in India got job for dumb people like you and me. However, to get a job in a depressed economy is much harder. Pay wont be better either.

I am sure you are wondering by now, what about sex and life expectancy? How is that, discussed in the begining, related to this post?

Who said it is ?!

I ate Italy!

There are many reasons why Canada is one of the decent countries in the world; something an immigrant like me has always appreciated and of which Canadians should be proud .However, what made me sad is what the word "Canadian" means in Canada! Make a guess before I tell you a thing or two about it. I went to a restaurant in Ajax, one of the suburbs in Toronto area. The person with me was a dude who is one of the very good drivers I have seen. He told me once about driving. That he never drives but flies! That aside, what took me by surprise was his order. He said, "Give me a Canadian". Keep guessing while I take you around some of the interesting thoughts this Saturday.

Have you ever thought about a pant which grows as you grow? Have you ever questioned if such pants can laundry themselves while you continue to wear it? Adarsha one of my friends has a complete design for such a pant. His wife Srujana added that such a pant should also come with a embedded washroom and should change colour! Now, not willing to be left behind, let me add, ... I do not know man... it might sound crazy.. I will keep it for another post. Thing about all this was that we had some crazy trash talk and some wise predictions. We ruled that the Bloor station designers were stupid and the junction for north south and east west subway intersection in Toronto will collapse before the end of next week! We could say that by the loudness of the train running north to south. Alright, if that was not enough, after we were back from super market we ate Italy!

Have you ever eaten France? Netherland at least? eh? No? I feel sorry for you. We just had 6 Italies. Tamil some said has no or little compunds. Idli becomes Idali or Itali! (All langues have limitations, not just Tamil) So we had Italies in a Srilankan restaurant.

Then a Chinese looking guy asked us. You speak Kannada! Man, I was floored but the suprise was yet to come. When we said. "yes", he said he can speak Kannada in Kannada! He went on to explain that he was a Tibetian and had lived in Bengaluru. We spoke about Mundagodu and Dharmashala. I forgot to ask about Tibet. Then there were Chinese looking guys speaking English in thick Tamil accent. They used words like, "oNely", "Dhanks"! And then they spoke in Tamil. It took a while to realise Some Malaysians speak Tamil and they are not Indian Tamilians.

Then we bought some Nuts and Bolts! Nah.. some dry nuts actually then headed home.
The board to the friends Condo read "Residents only"! I am planing to stick a P behind it next time I go to make it, "Presidents only"! Do not ask me why!!

Now, to wake you up to what I strated with, "Did you guess what Canadian means in Canada?". It is a brand of Beer.

Are you a racist?

I have reasons to believe that the way we grow up has lot of room to make us racist. Irrespective of how plural surroundings are, we always judge and associate and even map some elements of the surroundings to others. For example, we associate smell to different things: fragrance to flower, foul smell to decaying and so on (let us leave details for future discussion). Not all associations are correct but some are not so obvious. We associate intelligence with caste, race etc. We hear all the time; some say Brahmins are more intelligent. I have run in to several North Americans who directly or indirectly admitted that they consider Jews smart. Isn't racism a slightly exaggerated version of these associations with a thick negative connotation?

How about Arabian horses? It goes unquestioned that they are the best horses in the world. Why does that not apply to humans? Are we being realistic when we say all races are equal? Definitely not. All races are different but horses are meant for running (let us agree on other details: control, endurance)! What matters is whether a horse is better at what it is supposed to do. They say, a ship is safe at shore but it is not what it is built for! Our IQ and other qualities make a huge difference in how we develop our societies. If we disregard exceptions, average of qualities differs. We can not quantify the difference but we know it makes a difference. If our nose and ass can be different, why not our intelligence?

If there are differences some will be better and others worse. Are these not enough for us to be biased? Some qualities such as power and intelligence are more useful in this world than others. Reality is that the world is biased in favour of some qualities and some of us have the advantage of possessing them a little more than others. I am practicing to leave all the prejudices to my heart and train my head (conscious decision) to be balanced. I will never listen to my heart (emotional decision) for I know it is biased. I would rather let my emotions enjoy the pleasures of experiences. In either case, what we are up against are bad reactions to these differences: racism.
